Background:

Calcium oxalate stones are a common condition with a high recurrence rate.
Predicting stone recurrence is crucial for effective patient management and prevention.
Existing predictive tools may lack convenience or accuracy.

Purpose of the Study:

To develop and validate a simple, self-administered tool to predict calcium oxalate stone recurrence.
To identify key patient factors contributing to stone recurrence.
To introduce the 8-item stone recurrence predictive score (SRPS).

Main Methods:

Developed an 8-item SRPS using general patient data from 204 calcium oxalate stone patients.
Included factors such as age, sex, urine volume, smoking, family history, stone number, and gouty arthritis.
Compared data between recurrent and single stone formers.

Main Results:

The SRPS, along with family history, stone number, and gouty arthritis, were independent predictors of recurrence.
A significant positive correlation was found between SRPS and stone recurrence (r2 = 0.859, p <0.0001).
An SRPS cutoff of 7+ offered 61.7% sensitivity and 75.3% specificity; an SRPS of 11+ predicted 100% recurrence.

Conclusions:

The 8-item SRPS is a reliable tool for predicting calcium oxalate stone recurrence.
Patients with an SRPS of 7+ may benefit from metabolic evaluation.
Preventive measures are strongly recommended for patients with an SRPS of 11+.
