Summary

Blunt chest trauma can cause severe tricuspid regurgitation years later. Surgical intervention is recommended for traumatic tricuspid regurgitation with heart failure.

Tricuspid regurgitation can result from nonpenetrating chest trauma.
Delayed presentation of symptoms like dyspnea or palpitations is common.

Observation:

Echocardiography revealed severe tricuspid regurgitation and enlarged right heart chambers.
Cardiac catheterization showed elevated right atrial pressure with prominent v waves.

Findings:

Surgical exploration identified ruptured tricuspid valves or chordae tendineae.
Three cases involved ruptured chordae tendineae requiring valve replacement; one had leaflet tearing and direct suturing.

Implications:

Surgical treatment, including valve replacement or repair, is crucial for managing traumatic tricuspid regurgitation.
Early diagnosis and intervention are vital for patients with heart failure due to chest trauma-induced valve damage.
