Summary

Workplace inclusion for people with disabilities requires significant improvements. Ergonomics and targeted training can help adapt environments and job design, bridging the gap between policy and practice.

Background:

The European Disability Strategy aims to increase open labor market participation for individuals with disabilities.
The ERGO WORK project investigates barriers to workplace inclusion for disabled employees across six European nations.

Purpose of the Study:

To explore stakeholder perceptions and needs regarding workplace adaptations for employees with disabilities.
To identify areas for improvement in supporting disabled workers within the open labor market.

Main Methods:

An exploratory online survey was conducted.
480 participants from six European countries completed the survey.

Main Results:

Analysis indicates substantial room for workplace enhancement to meet employee needs.
Significant potential exists for company training on employee needs, employer responsibilities, and workplace adaptation.

Conclusions:

A gap persists between the intention and reality of workplace inclusion for disabled individuals.
Ergonomics offers a key strategy for adapting work environments and job design.
Employers require specialist guidance and organizational training to effectively support workplace inclusion and individual needs.
