Patient-Centered Development of a Digital Care Pathway for Arrhythmia Patients

Summary

Patients are eager for digital health tools. This study developed and tested a digital care path for arrhythmia patients, enhancing their experience and guiding future e-health service development.

Background:

Patients are receptive to e-health services and web portals.
Understanding patient needs is crucial for effective digital care path development.

Purpose of the Study:

To describe patient experiences with guidance during arrhythmia procedures.
To identify patient needs and expectations for future digital care pathways.
To inform patient-centered digital service development.

Main Methods:

Thematic interviews were conducted with patients undergoing electrophysiology examinations, supraventricular tachycardia catheter ablation (n=7), and atrial fibrillation ablation (n=4).
A preliminary digital care path was modified based on interview findings.
The refined digital care path was tested in a workshop with patients (n=3) and nursing staff (n=6).

Main Results:

A comprehensive digital care pathway for arrhythmia patients was successfully developed.
Patient and staff feedback was integrated into the final digital care path design.

Conclusions:

The developed digital care path meets the needs and expectations of arrhythmia patients.
The study provides a model for patient-centered digital service development in cardiology.
Future e-health initiatives can leverage these findings to improve patient engagement and care.
