Summary

Using an absorbable mesh wrap improved splenic preservation rates in trauma patients from 50% to 67%. This safe and effective splenic preservation technique shows promise for managing severe spleen injuries.

To evaluate the efficacy of an absorbable mesh wrap for splenic preservation in trauma patients.
To compare splenic salvage rates and postoperative complications with conventional methods.

An absorbable mesh was applied to the spleen to provide tamponade for bleeding control.
Patients with blunt and penetrating trauma underwent splenic wrapping.
Outcomes were compared to historical data of splenectomy and conventional splenorraphy.

This technique offers a viable alternative to splenectomy for severe spleen injuries.
Further studies are investigating potential causes of perisplenic fluid collections observed postoperatively.
