Rats exhibit a daily rhythm in type II iodothyronine 5'-deiodinase (5'-D-II) activity in the anterior pituitary, peaking at midnight. This rhythm, absent in hypothyroidism, may influence thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) secretion.
