Summary

The 12E7 red cell polymorphism is controlled by both X-linked Xg and Y-linked Yg loci. X-Y recombination explains an exception to Y-linked control in one family.

Background:

The genetic control of red blood cell surface antigens is crucial for understanding blood group systems.
Previous studies suggested X-linked inheritance for certain red cell polymorphisms.
