Gastric obstruction from the Angelchik prosthesis

Summary

A slipped Angelchik antireflux prosthesis caused stomach obstruction in a patient 5 days after surgery for gastroesophageal reflux disease, necessitating reoperation.

Background:

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) affects a significant portion of the population, often requiring surgical intervention.
The Angelchik antireflux prosthesis was developed as a surgical option to manage GERD.

Observation:

A 47-year-old female patient underwent implantation of an Angelchik antireflux prosthesis for GERD.
Postoperatively, within 5 days, the prosthesis migrated from its intended position.
The migrated prosthesis led to a critical complication: gastric outlet obstruction.

The Angelchik prosthesis demonstrated a tendency to dislocate or slip after implantation.
Prosthesis migration resulted in severe mechanical complication, obstructing the stomach.
Reoperation was required to address the complication and relieve the obstruction.
