Summary

Viewing one's own seizures in a controlled epilepsy monitoring setting did not negatively impact patient anxiety or attitudes. This finding suggests that watching seizure videos can be a safe and potentially beneficial tool for epilepsy patients.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the psychological impact of viewing one's own seizures in a controlled clinical environment.
To assess the effect on anxiety levels and patient attitudes toward their epilepsy.

Main Methods:

Patients undergoing inpatient epilepsy monitoring viewed videos of their own seizures.
The Spielberger State Trait Anxiety Scale (SSTAS) and a custom questionnaire were administered pre- and post-viewing, and one month later.
Statistical analysis included repeated-measures MANOVA and ANOVA.

Main Results:

No significant differences were found in patient attitudes or feelings regarding viewing their seizures.
No significant changes in anxiety levels (SSTAS scores) were detected across the testing periods.
Statistical analysis indicated no detrimental psychological effects from viewing seizure videos.

Conclusions:

Viewing one's own seizures in a controlled setting appears to be psychologically safe for epilepsy patients.
This practice does not appear to increase anxiety or negatively alter patient attitudes.
Further research could explore the potential benefits of this intervention for seizure management and adjustment.
